Common use cases
- Work with probability distributions and random variables
- Run statistical tests from Python scripts and notebooks
- Build simulations and null models for scientific data
Getting started
SciPy Stats is the statistics submodule of SciPy. It includes probability distributions, statistical tests, summary statistics, sampling tools, and utilities for building simulation-based analyses.
Why It Matters in Research Workflows
Many research questions require both descriptive summaries and explicit statistical assumptions. SciPy Stats lets learners connect probability distributions, simulated data, and statistical tests in code they can inspect and rerun.
In Our Teaching
We use SciPy Stats when teaching simulations, descriptive statistics, and model evaluation. Related examples appear in the spike-analysis materials on comparing and visualizing neural spiking.
